Thai Micro Crab (Limnopilos naiyanetri)
The Thai Micro Crab is a tiny, fully aquatic freshwater crab native to Thailand and prized for its delicate, spider-like legs and unique behavior. Staying under 1 inch in size, these crabs are peaceful, shy, and best kept in heavily planted aquariums where they can cling to roots, moss, or fine-leaved plants. They are filter-feeders and scavengers, often waving their fine claws to capture microscopic food particles. Because of their size and gentle nature, they are best suited for species-only tanks or nano aquariums with very small, peaceful tankmates.
Size: Up to 0.5–1 inch
Tank Size: Minimum 5 gallons (nano tanks work if stable)
Care Level: Moderate (due to their tiny size and feeding needs)
Diet: Omnivore/Filter-feeder – powdered fish foods, baby shrimp food, biofilm, and microfauna. They may also graze on algae.
Temperament: Very peaceful and shy – easily outcompeted by larger or faster tankmates.
Water Parameters: 72–82°F, pH 6.5–7.5, soft to moderate hardness
