The Fire Eel is a large, elongated freshwater species known for its bold red and orange stripes that intensify with age. Despite its size and intimidating appearance, it's generally peaceful and intelligent—often recognizing and interacting with its keeper. Best kept in a large, well-covered tank with plenty of hiding spots.

Size: Up to 36 inches (91 cm) in the wild, usually 20–24 inches (50–60 cm) in aquariums
Tank Size: Minimum 125 gallons
Care Level: Advanced
Diet: Carnivore – live or frozen bloodworms, earthworms, shrimp, and sinking carnivore pellets
Temperament: Peaceful to semi-aggressive (may eat very small fish)
Compatibility: Good with large, non-aggressive fish
Notes: Needs soft substrate to burrow; escape artist—tank must be tightly sealed. Not suitable for planted nano or community setups.
