Clown Tang (Acanthurus lineatus)
The Clown Tang is a striking and energetic surgeonfish, instantly recognizable by its bold horizontal blue and yellow stripes, white belly, and slender, torpedo-shaped body. Native to coral reefs throughout the Indo-Pacific, it inhabits surge zones and reef crests where it actively grazes on algae. While visually spectacular, the Clown Tang is known for its high activity level, rapid swimming, and strong territorial instincts—especially toward other tangs. It plays a valuable role in the reef ecosystem by controlling algal overgrowth, but due to its size, aggression, and sensitivity, it is best suited for experienced aquarists with large, mature systems.
