Blue Tang (Paracanthurus hepatus)
The Blue Tang is one of the most recognizable and beloved marine fish, famous for its vibrant royal blue body, bold black “palette” pattern, and bright yellow tail. Found throughout the Indo-Pacific, it inhabits outer reef slopes and lagoons, often seen darting among coral heads and crevices. As a herbivore, it contributes to reef health by grazing on algae, though its diet may include small invertebrates in the wild. While visually stunning, it requires careful husbandry due to its sensitivity to water quality and susceptibility to marine ich. Active and social, it thrives best in spacious tanks with ample swimming room.
